One of Canada's most spectacular and little-known golf destinations is the beautiful Shuswap Valley, in British Columbia. Golfers can choose from a number of excellent golf courses around Shuswap Lake. The lush green Shuswap Valley boasts lakes, mountains, and forests and offers the pleasures of warm sunny weather, inspiring scenery, and great golfing.
Anglemont Estates Golf Course and Country Club is located in Anglemont in the North Shuswap. On the shores of Little Shuswap Lake, Chase has the Sunshore Golf Course, famous for its boat docking site next to the 8th tee. Salmon Arm's three golf courses are the Salmon Arm Golf Club, Canoe Creek Golf Course, and Sonseekers Ridge Golf Course. The two Sicamous golf courses are Hyde Mountain on Mara Lake Golf Course, and Eagle River Golf and Country Club.
Blind Bay has a championship golf course, The Shuswap Lake Estates Golf & Country Club. This traditional design, 18-hole layout has played host to the B.C. Junior Girls Championship. Both the veteran player and those new to the game can set up well here. The course can test your game, so proper tee selection is important. There are several risk reward experiences for the longer hitter.
Course conditions are consistently reliable in the Shuswap Valley, attracting provincial and national events. For example, the Salmon Arm Golf Club's 9-hole executive course has frequently hosted such events. Salmon Arm is the choice for golfers who like to avoid seeing other golfers and the clutter of surrounding residential areas. The fairways are tree-lined, and you will seldom see other golfers on the links. The course is demanding, with many two-tiered greens, and approach shots will test your judgment and club selection. The Salmon Arm Golf Club is quaint and well-liked by those coming from a big city.
Hyde Mountain on Mara Lake Golf Course may distract you with its jaw-dropping panoramas. It is definitely one of British Columbia's most scenic golf courses. Hyde Mountain's championship layout is characterized by lush turf conditions, lake views, and elevation changes. The fourth hole is famous for its hundred foot drop. Golfers may pause and ask themselves if they are feeling lucky, or should they play it conservatively? Shot placement is important here, the par 3’s are not necessarily gifts, and the greens will require skilled hands to ensure favorable putting statistics.
Talking Rock Resort and Quaaout Lodge is a great place for a golf weekend. It was designed by Cooke Carlton International. Built along Little Shuswap Lake, it is the pride of the Little Shuswap Indian Band. It is ocated near Chase, BC, between Kamloops and Salmon Arm. Talking Rock is a great course for new players wanting to experience a longer course with their more experienced playing partners, thanks to the number of tee boxes. Talking Rock Resort and Quaaout Lodge offer accommodation on site.
The Canoe Creek Golf Course offers water features such as waterfalls, creeks, fountains, natural marshes, and fescue. The British-styled course offers 7,000 yards of immaculate greens, open fields, grassy bunkers, and the challenge of subtle undulations. Golfers can hit driver off the tee in some situations, due to the Dave Barr-design, while other situations require a more conservative club selection.
